ington retirement study. Unpublished papers, available from Dr R.C. Taylor). Between 1964 and 1966 Dr John Martin conducted a comprehensive investigation of retirement among workers at the Pilkington Glass Factory in St Helens. He grouped sample members (n = 684) according to skill level and the length of time expected to elapse before retirement, and in the case of those who had already retired, the actual time since their retirement. Figure 1 shows the basic pattern observed over 17 separate measures/indices of health. There were four elements to the pattern: 1. In the early period, rates of reported illness/consultation were higher for unskilled staff than for skilled staff. 2. In the period immediately preceding retirement, rates for unskilled staff showed a dramatic increase and those for skilled staff showed an equally dramatic decrease. 3. In the period immediately following retirement, rates for those who had been skilled staff were higher than those for those who had been unskilled staff.

متن کاملHeterogeneity in Income Tax Incidence: Are the Wages of Dangerous Jobs More Responsive to Tax Changes than the Wages of Safe Jobs?
Income taxes distort the relationship between wages and non-taxable amenities. When the marginal tax rate increases, amenities become more valuable as the compensating differential for low-amenity jobs is taxed away. While there is evidence that the provision of amenities responds to taxes, the literature has ignored the consequences for job characteristics which cannot fully-adjust. This paper...

متن کاملInfluence of Sudden Column Loss on Dynamic Response of Steel Moment Frames under Blast Loading
Modeling buildings response to blast and subsequent progressive collapse interested more and more researchers during the past two decades. Due to the threat from extreme loading, efforts have been made to develop methods of structural analysis and design. In this paper, progressive collapse capacity of steel moment frames was first investigated using alternate load path method, then a nonlinear...
متن کاملThe response of Japanese wives ’ labor supply to husbands ’ job loss

The detailed statistics show that not only do working wives raise their ...

As part of a larger study, 2279 of 3700 (61%) employees responded to a survey at Time 1...
